AR Racing: a city race on your coffee table
AR Racing is a game we built in house to show what augmented reality can do for kids’ games. Place a floating city on any table or sofa, then race through traffic while the whole world sits right there in your room.

Why a racing game in AR?
Mobile games for children usually live on a small flat screen. AR can put the whole game world into the room around them.
We wanted to prove that a full, polished AR game can run smoothly on everyday phones, and that young children can pick it up instantly.
So we built one ourselves, from idea to playable game.
A floating city, right in your room
We designed and built a complete AR racing game, from 3D city to controls and sound.
- 01
Place the track anywhere
Players point their phone at a table or sofa and drop a floating island city onto it.
THE CHALLENGEFinding surfaces reliably on many different phones and in different rooms.HOW WE SOLVED ITWe used AR Foundation plane detection and a clear placement guide, so the track lands right first time. - 02
Race through real traffic
Players steer through a busy city, dodging cars, bikes and trucks.
THE CHALLENGEKeeping the game challenging, but never frustrating for young players.HOW WE SOLVED ITWe tuned the speed and number of obstacles so the game stays fun from the first race. - 03
Controls made for kids
Big, simple touch controls mean children can play without instructions.
THE CHALLENGEChildren have less patience for complicated controls.HOW WE SOLVED ITWe kept the controls to a few large buttons and tested them with young players in mind. - 04
A world worth looking at
A bright, cartoon style city with futuristic shading and punchy sound effects.
THE CHALLENGERich 3D scenes still had to run smoothly on everyday phones.HOW WE SOLVED ITOur art team built the city in Blender, Maya, 3ds Max, ZBrush and Substance Painter, then optimised it for mobile.
Proof of what AR games can be
AR Racing shows clients and partners exactly what a polished AR game feels like, and how quickly we can build one.
- A complete, playable AR game, built in house
- Runs smoothly on everyday iPhone and Android phones
- A starting point for branded or educational AR games
Watch it in action
Gameplay recorded on a phone: place the track, then race through the city.
