WHAT WE BUILD

Learning that feels like play

Learning games

Languages and early learning, taught through songs, mini games and speaking out loud.

Example: An English learning game for kids

Habit and routine apps

Help young children build daily habits through small rewards, characters and gentle reminders.

Example: An app for ages 3 and up, in development

Learning in AR

Words, animals and objects appear in the child’s own room, on everyday phones and tablets.

Example: AR word games in the English learning game

Games for older students

Hard subjects turned into games for schools and education programmes, on tablets or in VR.

Example: Haptiq, quantum computing as a game

BUILT FOR CHILDREN

What changes when the player is a child

A children’s app is judged by two people: the child who plays it and the parent who pays for it. We plan for both from the first sketch.

Privacy first

We collect only what a feature needs and plan parental consent where the law requires it, with COPPA and GDPR in mind.

No surprise ads or tracking

We plan for the App Store Kids category and Google Play Families rules from the start, and check content, privacy, third party tools, ads and parental controls before submission.

Parents stay in control

Purchases, settings and outside links sit behind a parental gate. A progress view shows parents what their child is learning.

Designed for small hands

Big touch targets, voice and pictures instead of text for children who cannot read yet, and praise instead of failure screens.

AI with care

If the app uses AI, we decide what data it sees, where it is processed and how long it is kept before we build it.

Ready for play tests with children

A new build every Friday means you, or your testing partner, can run short play sessions with children in your age group from the first weeks.

This is practical guidance from building children’s apps, not legal advice. Your legal adviser should confirm what applies in the countries where you launch.

IN PLAIN WORDS

Key terms for children’s apps

COPPA
A United States law that protects the personal information of children under 13.
GDPR for children
In the EU, when an online service offered directly to children relies on consent, a parent must agree for children under 16. Each country can lower this age, but not below 13.
UK Children’s Code
UK rules for online services children are likely to use: high privacy settings by default, and no nudging.
Kids category
The App Store section for children’s apps, with strict rules on ads, analytics and links that leave the app.
Families programme
Google Play’s rules for apps aimed at children, including which ad networks are allowed.
Parental gate
A simple check that only an adult can pass, placed before purchases, settings and links.
Data minimisation
Collecting only the data a feature truly needs, and keeping it no longer than necessary.

What usually worries buyers, answered

  1. 01Will I see real progress, or only reports? You get a working prototype on the real device in 2 to 3 weeks, then a new build every Friday that you can play and comment on.
  2. 02Will the price grow halfway through? The Prototype Sprint is a fixed price. A full project gets a written plan and quote before it starts, and you pay by milestone. After the prototype you can go on, change direction or stop.
  3. 03Who owns the work, and is my idea safe? You own the code, art and IP we create for you from day one. It is written into the contract and the code lives in your own accounts. Tools we already had and third party assets keep their own licences, and we tell you which ones are used. If you want an NDA first, we sign one before you share any details.
  4. 04Will we understand each other across time zones? One senior lead is your single contact and explains everything in plain words. We reply within 24 hours. Our hours cover the working day in the Gulf and most of the day in Europe, and for US teams we plan calls in your morning.

Questions about kids games

How much does it cost to make a kids game?

At Pixent Interactive, full kids and educational games start at $8,000. A Prototype Sprint costs a fixed $4,500 and gives you a playable version on a real phone or tablet in 2 to 3 weeks. The final price depends on the number of games and lessons, the art, any speech recognition, AR or AI, and how many languages you need.

What is COPPA, and does my app need it?

COPPA is a United States law that protects children under 13 online. If your app is aimed at children, or you know children under 13 use it, you generally need verifiable parental consent before collecting personal information from them. Ask your legal adviser to confirm what applies in your markets.

Can a kids app have ads?

Only with strict limits. Apple’s Kids category generally does not allow third party advertising or analytics, and Google Play only allows ad networks certified for its Families programme in apps for children. Many parents and schools prefer no ads at all, so most learning apps use a one time price or a subscription bought behind a parental gate.

Can a kids app use AI?

Yes, with care. Decide what data the AI sees, where it is processed and how long it is kept before you build, and collect as little as possible. Our app for children aged 3 and up was designed this way, with GDPR in mind from the start.

How do you test a game with children?

You get a new playable build every Friday, so you can run short play sessions with children in your target age group from the first weeks, with their parents’ consent. Young children show you what is confusing in minutes, long before launch.

How long does a kids game take?

A playable prototype takes 2 to 3 weeks. A complete learning game usually takes a few months. Our English learning game for a European edtech company took 6 months from start to launch.
