CASE STUDY · EDUCATIONAL GAME · SPEECH RECOGNITION AND AR

An English learning game for kids, with speech and AR

We built an educational game app that teaches young children English words through play. Kids watch animated song videos, practise with listen and click games, then say the words out loud: speech recognition scores their pronunciation, and the words come to life in augmented reality.

THE PROBLEM

Learning a language takes speaking, not just watching

Most language apps for children are flashcards and videos. Kids watch and tap, but rarely say the words out loud.

Parents struggle to know whether a child can actually pronounce new words, not just recognise them.

The goal was a game that takes children from hearing a word to saying it confidently, and makes every step fun.

HOW WE SOLVED IT

Watch it, play it, say it

We built a game around a simple three stage learning method, finished with speech recognition and AR.

  1. 01

    Stage 1: watch and sing

Animated song videos with friendly characters introduce each set of new words.

THE CHALLENGEYoung children lose interest very quickly.
HOW WE SOLVED ITShort, catchy songs with recurring characters keep them watching and singing along.
  2. 02

    Stage 2: listen and click

Mini games ask children to listen to a word and tap the right picture.

THE CHALLENGEPractice has to feel like play, never like a test.
HOW WE SOLVED ITWe built a set of bright listen and click games that celebrate every right answer.
  3. 03

Stage 3: say it out loud

Children speak the words, and speech recognition scores them word by word and sound by sound.

THE CHALLENGEFeedback must be precise, but always encouraging.
HOW WE SOLVED ITWe show scores for each word and each sound, so children and parents see exactly what to practise next.
  4. 04

    Words come alive in AR

Augmented reality games bring the words into the real world, at home or outdoors.

THE CHALLENGEAR has to work wherever a child happens to play.
HOW WE SOLVED ITWe built AR games that run on everyday phones and tablets in any location.
THE OUTCOME

From hearing a word to saying it

Children learn new English words through a daily routine of songs, games, speaking and AR, while parents follow their progress.

  • Daily lessons that build step by step
  • Pronunciation feedback on every word
  • A progress centre for parents
