CASE STUDY · AR CITY GUIDE

An AR city guide for a European capital

We built an AR city guide for a European capital. Visitors follow an interactive map from landmark to landmark, then point their phone to see historic buildings and stories appear right where they once stood.

THE PROBLEM

A city full of history you cannot see

Much of a city’s story is invisible today. Buildings have changed or disappeared, and a plaque can only say so much.

The city wanted visitors and residents to discover its landmarks and history in a way that feels alive, on the phone they already carry.

The content had to stay fresh, with new places and stories added without asking people to update the app.

HOW WE SOLVED IT

Put the history back on the streets

We built one AR guide that combines walking routes, historic scenes and a city boulevard tour. Visuals are confidential, so this page uses illustrations.

  1. 01

    Landmark to landmark

An interactive map guides visitors along routes and shows what is nearby, so exploring feels easy even on a first visit.

THE CHALLENGEShowing the right content at the right spot, in a busy city.
HOW WE SOLVED ITWe built on detailed city maps and location tracking so every stop appears where it should.
  2. 02

    History, back where it happened

Point the phone at a street and historic buildings and scenes appear in 3D, right where they once stood.

THE CHALLENGEPlacing large 3D buildings convincingly in real streets, on everyday phones.
HOW WE SOLVED ITWe optimised every 3D model and used AR tracking on iPhone and Android to keep them steady as people move.
  3. 03

    Scan to unlock stories

Signs and printed material around the route unlock extra stories and scenes when scanned.

THE CHALLENGERecognising images outdoors, in changing daylight.
HOW WE SOLVED ITWe tuned the image tracking and tested it outside at different times of day.
  4. 04

    Always up to date

New places, stories and events are delivered from the cloud and appear instantly.

THE CHALLENGEApp updates are slow, and many people never install them.
HOW WE SOLVED ITWe built a cloud content system so the city’s updates go live without a new app version.
THE OUTCOME

A city guide that keeps growing

Visitors and residents explore the city’s landmarks and history on their own phones, and the city keeps adding new stories over time.

  • History made visible, right where it happened
  • Guided routes make exploring easy for first time visitors
  • New content goes live without app updates
